From Santa Fe to Canyon de Chelly

This afternoon I began my trip from Santa Fe to Canyon de Chelly. I wanted to make a pilgrimage to a place where I had a significant spiritual experience 36 years ago in a kiva. I arrived in the small village in New Mexico this afternoon at about the same time of day and very near the same date as I arrived there in 1972. Not a lot has changed. Most roads in the town are still dirt rodes. There are more houses but unless you had been there 36 years ago you would now know it. Most adobe or psuedo adobe. I immediately felt the same energy in the air, the same magical feeling. It even felt like a storm was brewing just as it had been then. I was aching to wander beyond the edge of the village and into the wash then downstream a ways and up the other side and along the top in search of the kiva. I soon discovered there was no way to get out of the village on that side. There was no longer acccess to that wash. All property was fenced and 'No Tresspassing' posted everywhere. On further inquiry I discovered that the wash itself was now on private property and there simply was no access to that land. I was bummed. I wandered around the village for a while longer breathing in the charged air of this place - a place that will remain the starting point of so much else that happened in my life.
it was almost sunset and I decided to catch a few photos and return to Santa Fe for the night. Tomorrow I will drive to Canyon de Chelly. Here are a few of the photos I took at sunset from the Turquoise Trail:

Help

Be still my beating heart. You are surrounded by Beauty and wisdom. You are blessed, in so many ways. How can I express the gratitude I feel for your sharing your journey and for posting such amazing photos - windows for us to see through…
Thinking of you warmly, Don.
Beautiful images both photographic and written. I know the land and villages you speak of…had the honor of being a guide with the Navajo's in Canyon de Chelly and del Murito back in the day.Thank you for sharing.

What an amazing pilgrimage you have undertaken–it would have been fun to “meet” the current owner of that wash. I am feeling that someone inspired enough to purchase such land must have some pretty special motives…what was the storm brewing & the energy of this place whispering to you? Did you recieve it's message ?
Thanks Ookami & Victoria & Michele. I will be going back for more in May, June and Nov this year! Yikes. The pull is strong for me. Ookami - next time I hope to go into the canyon, which did not happen this time and will look into going into del Murito.
Victoria - this place has a very strong energy and the storms really exagerate that. I felt exaclty the same feeling I felt 36 years ago and searched all over for a way to get out to that spot. Unfortunately, the story is that the new owner of that land ripped the top off the kiva and destroyed it because the presence of spirit was too much for him. It would appear now that the land is simply off limits and nothing is going on there now. It was interesting to view the wash from afar and see how many trees have grown up there in 36 years. Apparently when I was there a few years of heavy rains and flash floods had cleaned out the wash.
I walked around the village for a few hours feeling the energy of the place and watched the above sunset from nearby then went back to Santa Fe for the night.
